I live in Florida and I am from Japan. When I said to Spanish speaking person from Puerto Rico ” Buenos Dias !” and he corrected me to say “Buen dia !” …How come?

  13. thespanishblog Says:

    Hola,
I suppose in Puerto Rico it is normal for peole to say “Buen dia” instead of “Buenas dias”. I am from Spain and teach Spanish Castellano and here it is more usual to say “Buenas dias”. Sometimes there are many different ways to say the same thing.
    Saludos, Laura

Hola,Laura.Sabes decir porque los saludos en español son en el plural y no en el singular como en las otra lenguas latinas?Gracias.

  18. OlorinVictorsson Says:

I don’t think that he was correcting you. Maybe he is more used to say “Buen día” instead of “Buenos días”. I guess it would be like if a non english speaker says “Good morning” in England, USA, etc and then the English native-speaker says “Morning!”. Hope this may help you :)

  19. katrindox Says:

thank you very much. My son at school started to learn Spanish so I started too because I have to help him. I like your lesson unfortunately I don t know how to write.

  20. MaMoral88 Says:

@thespanishblog is it buenas dias or buenos dias??thanks!

  21. MaMoral88 Says:

@planetcoco both ways are well spoken.

  22. MaMoral88 Says:

@Neanderthalcouzin working with me there is an english-speaking woman who could not pronounce properly the spanish word “puerta” which means “door” in English, since she had the same problem that you have, but I helped her and made her practice the word till she got it right,I advise you to find a spanish-speaking person to help you with that, that person must say the word to you slowly and little by little until you get it.Good Luck!!

  23. thespanishblog Says:

Hola, no te podría decir por qué los saludos en castellano son en plural. En algunos países de Sudamérica dicen “Buen día” en vez de “buenos días”. En España se usa la forma en plural pero desconozco la razón.
