But you don’t actually say “I’m student” in English. Ever.

It’s ALWAYS “I’m a student.”

So when would you say “Yo soy un estudiante”?

Nop. Write it as you want, “Yo” or “yo”, no problem.
The article “a” in spanish means: Un/una:
I´m A student = Yo soy UN estudiante.
I´m student = Soy estudiante.

hi people, i m italian i trying to learn spanish. my first question is: in spanish, are we obliged to write “Yo” with the Y big or we can alzo write “yo”. and another question: when i say “i am a student” we use the article “a”. does we have to use the article also in spanish or not?
