Overseas Learning : Spanish In Argentina

The financial crash of 2001 in Argentina led to a peso devaluation which caused a significant boom in foreign tourism. One long term result of this was the emergence of a number of quality Spanish schools that offer you the chance to study the Spanish language on a budget. In addition to cost, there are other grounds for learning to speak Spanish in Argentina too.

Few Argentines speak English. In contrast to countries in the northern hemisphere that have greater contact with native English speaking tourists, businesses, music and movies, Argentina has had relatively little contact with English speakers. Until recently, the French language was considered by Argentines to be of a higher standing than English and the people with the resources to learn another language tended to learn French.

Although Argentines are fast changing their attitude (learning English now being an obligatory element of public school education), English is rarely spoken well by Argentines. This represents a great benefit for those wanting to learn Spanish as they will be forced to speak in Spanish in order to get by.

It is easy to understand Argentines. Argentines do not talk too fast, nor do they mumble their words, like Caribbean or Central American Spanish speakers. Many newcomers to Spanish have diffiuculty differentiating between words with spoken Spanish because they cannot hear the stopping of one word and the beginning of the next. Learning Spanish in Argentina minimizes this issue.

Argentines talk a lot. Spanish students will have little trouble getting people to practice with because a talkative culture exists there. You can strike up a conversation with absolute strangers. Uninhibited learners progress well in such an open environment.

Just do a little research on the internet. Whatever your preference, a relatively short four week study vacation, a half year home-stay arrangement, or something inbetween, you will be sure to find something in Argentina for you.
