Agree, and it should be a mandate in the k-12 curriculum; that at the time of graduation from the 12th grade, a child should have mastered a second language. By the way, mastering a second language at the time of graduation from the 12th grade, a college bound student can earn up to 24 credits, by taking the Spanish proficiency test known as Clep test and the OPI test then converting the scores to credits at a Credit Banking service of one’s state certified four year college

Obama,,,, in Europe the countries are like states are here, right next to each other… We should learn to speak Indiana or Wisconsin but why Spanish or any other language. Why be embarrased. I’m proud to be American… Just the way we are.

Check out the “big brain” on Chris! My self and my ancestors do not have to go “home”, if the US had adopted Mexico’s law, my ancestor complied….they learned english moron, the language of THIS country. They didn’t have to be made in the USA, they became citizens and got legal jobs. And Werewolf, nobody said it should be the only language. We are saying that we shouldn’t HAVE to speak spanish! Let them learn english!

Of course he doesn’t understand. If he and his lame policies were around decades before,we would all be speaking German or Japanese right now. If he can’t suck up to other nations with all of his apologies for the U.S., how else is he ever going to get to be leader of the world?. If multiple languages is so effective, why don’t we just plan on having all of our U.S. military battle commanders issue their commands in multiple languages, for any soldiers who cant speak English?

Most of the world is bilingual. This is the only country with its majority population only speaking 1 language.

dunno, english is currently the trading language, but no one knows how long that will last. It has more to do with the fact that most Americans never bother to leave America anyway so they don’t see the point. The Americans that are multilingual. Tend to either have grown up with a second language, or they went out of their way to learn it. Its quite tough as a young adult but its possible to learn. I speak, Japanese, a little bit of spanish, and turkish…. but it was effort on my end.

We don’t need to speak more than one language because MOST people on this continent are Americans. In Europe there are several countries in one continent…So why should we learn more than one language. What language would you think we should learn and then when would we use it?

Let’s see… Mexico, and most of Latin America, the continent of South America, 90% of the continent of Africa, etc… continents of people that don’t for the most part speak more than one language.
Europe is bilingual because all of the countries are fairly small (many the size of small states) and the people freely travel from one to the other.

Brazilians, argentenians,trinidadians, mexicans, canadians, and so forth are just as american as i am. i believe calling myself american then someone else is not is a little bit entitling. The only reason we call ourself american is because
