Travel More with LMS Online Courseware

In spite of the growing popularity of LMS online courses, only 8.6 out of each 100 college credits taken by students in the U.S. are for studying a foreign language. Compare that figure to the 56% of Europeans who are at ease with at least one other language, according to a recent Eurobarometer survey. It’s unfortunate: the U.S. is lagging far behind other countries in second-language acquisition.

The United States is among the wealthiest nations on the planet, with access to the newest technology. Considering this fact, why aren’t more Americans capitalizing on language acquisition resources such as online and in-person tutors, and university and LMS online language courses?

LMS online language courseware is in a category of its own. Unlike many other topics which survive on paper, language needs to come off the page, into the student’s head, and out of the mouth–often.

To fully master a language, a great deal of word and sound repetition  is required. Although an online course can ask learners to listen to and repeat, pronunciation is something that needs to be coached in person, and from an early point in the student’s learning process.

So for learning a language, a blended learning environment is really ideal. Most e-learning, after all, is most effective when coupled with face-to-face teaching.

When cared for and supplemented by face-to-face training, an LMS online language course can work wonders. In high schools especially, online language is part of the solution to many challenges that schools face, including limited language course offerings, shortages of language instructors, a lack of interest in language acquisition, the rise in home-schooling, and the lack of AP classes, physical space, and funding. Limited resources cause organizations to search for new and cost-effective solutions.

LMS online language courses can help foster the confidence of shy students when interaction with other students is online and required. Language students have a range of collaborative tools available to them online in the form of screen and audio recordings, LMSs, podcasts, discussion forums and VoIP services.
